When the WRX landed in 1994 it embarrassed cars at three times its price, and Australia never quite recovered. The GC8 generation remains the heart of the collector market, and the Japanese market specials sit at its peak: the Version series, the Type RA lightweights, the 555 editions that carried the rally livery, the S203 and above all the 22B, the widebody coupe now trading among the most valuable Japanese cars of its era. Modification has been part of WRX culture from the first day, which makes unmodified, documented examples genuinely scarce and priced accordingly, while quality builds remain a large and legitimate part of the market.
