This 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is a factory right-hand-drive, matching-numbers example finished in its original Weissgrau with a red leather interior, showing 61,177 km on its odometer. It is powered by a 1.9-litre inline four-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission, driving the rear wheels.

Originally delivered new to Switzerland, this example is a rare factory RHD car retaining its original engine and chassis combination, as confirmed by the factory data card and delivery docket. Having been in the same ownership for approximately 25 years, the car has been driven sparingly and meticulously maintained, covering only around 5,000 km since acquisition.

The 190SL was introduced in 1955 as the elegant sibling to the 300SL, combining Mercedes-Benz’s race-bred engineering with a more refined, grand touring focus. Its curvaceous design, high-quality construction, and smooth performance made it one of the most desirable European roadsters of the 1950s. Powered by a robust 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine with twin Solex carburettors, the 190SL was celebrated for its balance, reliability, and timeless aesthetic.

Under current ownership, the car has undergone a comprehensive bare-metal restoration completed to an exceptional standard, returning it to its exact factory colours and specification. The body was stripped to bare metal, refinished in its original Weissgrau paint, and reassembled with new seals, trim, and re-chromed brightwork. The red leather interior was restored using period-correct materials and detailing to accurately replicate its original appearance. Every aspect of the car was rebuilt or refreshed, ensuring it remains faithful to its factory presentation.

Mechanically, the 190SL is reported to drive superbly with no known faults. The engine starts readily, idles smoothly, and delivers consistent power through the four-speed manual gearbox. The car exhibits the composure and refinement expected from a well-maintained Mercedes-Benz of the era, and regular servicing has ensured continued reliability throughout its long-term ownership.

The exterior condition is outstanding, with straight panels, excellent alignment, and lustrous paintwork. Chrome trim and brightwork present beautifully, while the underbody and wheel arches are clean and corrosion-free. Inside, the cabin remains in remarkable condition, the red leather upholstery showing only minor wear from age. The square-weave carpet has a few small holes, and there is a light scratch on the steering wheel, both consistent with gentle use. All instrumentation, lighting, and switchgear operate correctly.

This 190SL will be supplied with its original removable hardtop and its original documentation including the factory data card, Swiss delivery docket, service receipts and long-term ownership records.
