This 1965 Lancia Flavia Sport Zagato is a rare and elegant Italian coupe featuring coachwork by Zagato, powered by a 1.8-litre flat-four engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Finished in navy blue over a retrimmed tan interior, it presents as a complete and well-preserved example of a highly collectable Lancia, showing an indicated 72,399 miles.

Believed to be one of just 26 right-hand-drive examples produced out of a total global production of 626 units, this Flavia Sport Zagato was designed by Ercole Spada and features a hand-formed aluminium body over a steel frame. Originally delivered to England and constructed in 1963, it underwent a complete restoration in the 1990s while in New Zealand. The body was stripped back to bare aluminium and repainted by Gordon Milne before reassembly by Derek Prentice. Mechanical refurbishment was carried out by Simon Curry in Christchurch, and the full restoration is documented with photos and invoices included in the sale.

The current owner acquired the car seven years ago and has continued its careful maintenance. The most recent routine service was completed by Maranello Pursang Motors in Brunswick in March 2024 at 71,800 miles. Additional work under current ownership has included a full replacement exhaust system, new clutch and linings, new rear disc pads and handbrake pads, and various minor upkeep items. The car comes with a full set of original manuals, logbook, and historical paperwork.

Mechanically, the Flavia drives well, though it is noted that the fuel gauge is non-functional and the car may drop out of second gear under deceleration — both issues disclosed in a recent mechanical inspection. The flat-four engine and gearbox were fully rebuilt as part of the restoration, and the car has covered minimal mileage since.

The tan interior presents in excellent condition throughout, having been retrimmed during the restoration. This included replacement of the seats, carpets, door cards, and headliner. There are no visible defects. The navy blue paintwork shows well, though subtle deformities in the finish are present in some areas due to a primer reaction under the top coat, this is visible only up close and does not detract from the car’s overall presence. This Lancia is accompanied by three keys, some factory documentation and books, documentation from its restoration and various receipts. In 2010, the car won the David Murphy Memorial Trophy at the 25th Castlemaine Rally, further testament to its provenance and restoration quality.
