This 1964 Volkswagen Kombi (T1) is a South African-built example finished in blue and white, imported to Australia in July 2024 and registered on historic vehicle plates in New South Wales. Power is provided by a 1.6-litre air-cooled flat-four (37kW/50hp), replacing the original 1.1-litre unit, backed by a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 39,161km (TMU).
The T1 Kombi remains one of the most recognisable and sought-after vehicles in the collector market, combining iconic mid-century design with the simplicity and repairability of Volkswagen's air-cooled mechanicals. German production of the T1 concluded in 1967, with South African assembly continuing thereafter, making later examples such as this among the last of the original split-windscreen generation.
The bus is finished in blue and white over a grey vinyl interior with new seat upholstery and carpet. An aftermarket oil pressure gauge has been fitted to the dash.
The seller has owned the vehicle since its arrival in Australia in July 2024. Prior ownership history is unknown and no service books or paperwork are present. The seller advises the engine and gearbox were removed to facilitate fitment of a new flywheel, and a new starter motor was also fitted. Rear brakes have been overhauled. A blue slip and pink slip inspection were completed by the seller's local garage at the time of importation. The seller reports minor rust in areas consistent with the vehicle's age, described as nothing major.
The seller reports the bus runs well and presents well overall. No paperwork, service history, or spare keys are included with the sale.
As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding. There are no security interests registered on the PPSR against the serial number and it is not recorded as written off or stolen.
