This 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback - GT350R Tribute is an A-code example extensively transformed in the style of Shelby’s competition-focused GT350R, with a recently built performance V8 and substantial chassis upgrades. It is powered by a 4.9 litre naturally aspirated 302ci Motorsport V8, with the seller advising output of more than 373 kW (500 hp), paired with a four-speed Top Loader manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a Ford nine-inch differential with Detroit Locker. The odometer is currently showing 42 miles* TMU.

The original 1965 Shelby GT350 was developed by Shelby American to transform Ford’s Mustang into a competitive SCCA B-Production car, with the competition version receiving further weight reduction, chassis, suspension and performance modifications for racing. This car began life as an A-code 1965 Mustang Fastback, denoting the factory four-barrel 289ci V8 specification, before being extensively reworked as a GT350R tribute. It is not represented as an original Shelby GT350R.

Finished in Wimbledon White with metallic Guardsman Blue stripes, the build incorporates a fibreglass competition-style bonnet over a steel subframe, front and rear brake-cooling intakes, riveted rear quarter-window delete panels, rear-seat removal and extensive underbody and strut-tower bracing working in conjunction with an internal roll bar. The cabin features Recaro Alcantara-trimmed bucket seats, Sparco harnesses, a wood-rimmed aluminium steering wheel and aftermarket Omega instrumentation. The seller advises that the glovebox carries a Carroll Shelby signature obtained prior to his passing in 2012.

The performance-built 302 V8 incorporates upgraded alloy cylinder heads, roller rockers, a performance camshaft, high-rise intake manifold, Holley 750 CFM four-barrel carburettor and ceramic-coated headers feeding a mandrel-bent exhaust system. Cooling is handled by an aluminium radiator with twin temperature-controlled thermo fans. The chassis also incorporates a rebuilt front end and steering box, strengthened underbody structure and near-new road-legal performance tyres. The seller advises that the engine has covered approximately 3,000 km since being built.

The current owner has had the Mustang for more than two years. Servicing has primarily been carried out by Midas together with some owner maintenance. Recent work completed during 2026 includes a new puck-style clutch, servicing of the differential, rebuilding of the steering box and front end and replacement of the starter motor. The tyres were fitted within the past 12 months and have travelled approximately 600 km. The vehicle has previously been imported to Australia and is accompanied by import documentation and Victorian modification certification.

The car was repainted in its current Wimbledon White and Guardsman Blue combination approximately three years ago. The seller describes the paintwork as presenting very well while noting that the car has been built primarily as a driver rather than a concours vehicle. New door shells were fitted after rust was identified in the previous doors, together with new rubbers, a replacement lower passenger-side door hinge and new tail-light lenses. The speedometer is currently inoperative, with a GPS speed display supplied for use in its place.

Included with the vehicle are the original door, boot and ignition keys, a spare steering wheel, seat belts, rocker-cover gaskets, boot lock, owner’s booklet, receipts and service material, together with its import documentation.
