This 1970 Ford Falcon XW Ute is a highly original rural survivor with long-term cattle station history and all of its original body and paintwork retained. It is powered by a 3.1 litre naturally aspirated 188ci inline six producing approximately 88 kW (118 hp), paired with a manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer currently shows 43,064 miles* TMU, with the engine reported to have been rebuilt at approximately 38,000 miles.

Introduced in 1969, the XW represented a substantial evolution of Ford Australia’s second-generation Falcon and remained in production until the arrival of the XY in late 1970. The Falcon utility combined the XW’s revised styling with the traditional Australian coupe-utility layout, while the 188ci six-cylinder engine formed part of the model’s core locally produced drivetrain range.

According to the extensive handwritten history accompanying the vehicle, the XW was purchased new in 1970 by the Walker family of Christmas Station near Eromanga, Queensland, through a Ford dealer in Charleville. The ute spent its early life working on the station, predominantly over unsealed rural roads. The supplied history records that a front suspension incident during the late 1970s damaged the right-hand shock tower area, after which the vehicle was placed into a station shed where it remained for around four decades. It was rediscovered in approximately 2018 before being retrieved for restoration in 2020.

A substantial mechanical recommissioning and restoration has since been completed. The 188ci engine was fully rebuilt at approximately 38,000 miles, while work across the vehicle included the cooling system, carburettor, water and fuel pumps, clutch hydraulics, heavy-duty clutch, engine and gearbox mounts, gearbox and differential seals and bearings, tailshaft and universal joints, wheel bearings and an extractor exhaust system. The steering, front and rear suspension and braking systems were also comprehensively attended to. The right-hand shock tower area was repaired as part of the restoration, while the seller advises that the vehicle was subsequently serviced and tuned by Roadside Auto Care in Maroochydore.

The exterior retains what the seller describes as its original factory bodywork and paint, with dents, scratches and other imperfections retained from its working life. The seller reports a small area of rust approximately the size of a five-cent piece in the tailgate. The seat has been retrimmed in its original style and new carpeting fitted, while the door trims, headlining and much of the remaining cabin are reported to be original. An electronic distributor has been fitted, together with steel wheels featuring pressed aluminium centres.

Included with the vehicle are spare parts, some tools and receipts relating to a substantial portion of the restoration and mechanical work.
