This 1976 Holden Monaro GTS is a extensively restored sedan retained by its current owner since March 1985. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.3 litre Chevrolet V8, stroked to 383ci, paired with a five-speed Tremec manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer currently shows 257,381 km* TMU.

Introduced in July 1976, the HX Monaro GTS continued Holden’s four-door performance model with revised detailing and engines adapted to new Australian emissions requirements. Its appearance incorporated prominent GTS graphics and contrasting bonnet paintwork, while buyers could choose between 4.2 litre and 5.0 litre V8 engines. The HX was the final series to carry the Monaro name on the GTS sedan before the HZ arrived with GTS branding alone.

Finished in DNA Vortex Gold with a candy coat and additional metallic flake, this example features black bonnet and lower-body detailing, twin headlights, front and rear spoilers, and five-spoke wheels. The photographed factory plate records an L31 308ci V8, M41 automatic transmission and 60B Chamois and cloth trim, distinct from its current drivetrain and interior. The seller identifies its original paint as Contessa Gold. The cabin now combines black leather and suede with red highlights, recovered original seats with embroidered Monaro lettering, and aftermarket air conditioning. The scuff plates and front A-pillar metal covers have a carbon-fibre-effect hydro-dipped finish. Mechanical modifications include a Castlemaine Rod Shop replacement front subframe with rack-and-pinion steering and larger front brakes, a Truetrac differential centre and a custom three-inch exhaust system. The rear brakes are described as standard.

The seller reports one previous owner and purchased the car in Nowra, New South Wales, in March 1985. Much of its servicing was undertaken personally before the engine replacement. The restoration involved stripping the body to bare metal and repairing or replacing areas affected by panel deterioration and minor rust. The original subframe, which had developed cracks and undergone previous welding repairs, was replaced during the modifications. The original 308 V8 was also replaced with the Chevrolet stroker engine and Tremec gearbox. The vehicle’s total distance travelled has not been verified. The seller advises that an engineering certificate will accompany the car, although the certificate and its scope have not yet been supplied for review.

The seller reports no scratches or dents in the restored paintwork, disclosing a touched-up stone chip on the rear bumper behind the left rear wheel and stone marks on the original grille surround. They report no accidents requiring panel repairs during their ownership, with the earlier history otherwise unconfirmed. The dashboard clock is inoperative, and the original engine-temperature gauge is reported to be potentially non-functional. A separate digital temperature gauge is fitted under the bonnet near the radiator. The aftermarket air conditioning is reported to work.

Included with the sale are the original service booklet, owner’s manual, a file of receipts, the original jack and at one spare key.
