This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL (R107) is an extraordinary time-warp example imported from the United States, presenting in unrestored original condition throughout having travelled just 6,348 miles from new. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 3.8-litre V8 engine producing 138kW (185hp), mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently reads 6,348 miles from new.
The R107 SL is one of the great automotive survivors. Produced across an exceptional 18-year production run from 1971 to 1989, it was engineered to a standard of mechanical over-engineering that few manufacturers have matched before or since. The 380SL, introduced in 1980, brought a refined V8 to the R107 range and represented the sweet spot of the model's later years, combining genuine grand touring ability with the understated elegance the SL had always embodied. Decades on, the R107 is firmly established as a future classic and values for well-preserved examples have been climbing steadily. A genuinely unrestored, single-family example with fewer than 10,000 miles is exceptionally rare and represents a once-in-a-generation find for collectors.
This car is finished in steel blue with a matching blue leather interior, a colour combination of considerable elegance. The cabin features blue leather upholstery, blue carpets, woodgrain dashboard and centre console trim, and the original Mercedes-Benz steering wheel. The documentation photo confirms this is a left-hand-drive US-market car and the included paperwork comprises the original 380SL owner's manual, the 1983 Mercedes-Benz Owner's Service and Warranty Policy booklet, original climate control and cruise control reference cards, and two original keys.
Imported from the United States, this 380SL has been extraordinarily well preserved. The drivetrain is entirely original throughout and inspection of the undercarriage reveals original factory paintwork and the factory-applied fish oil rustproofing that Mercedes-Benz applied to high-corrosion areas of their vehicles, still intact and visible. The car retains its original factory-fit Michelin XVS tyres on the correct 14-inch six-inch-wide alloy Bundt rims, as delivered from the factory.
The unrestored blue paintwork presents in beautiful condition, remarkable for its age and mileage. No panel damage, significant chips, or blemishes are noted and the window rubbers and exterior trim present as new, reflecting the car's exceptional state of preservation. The blue leather upholstery, woodgrain trim, and carpets inside the cabin are in unmarked, as-new condition throughout, with no wear, scuffs, or fading of any kind. The Michelin XVS tyres on the original Bundt alloy wheels present without damage.
This Mercedes-Benz 380SL will be supplied with the original owner's manual, 1983 service and warranty booklet, original climate control and cruise control reference cards, and two original keys.
