This 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa is a restored four-owner example presenting in a striking colour combination. Under its rear decklid sits a naturally-aspirated 3.2-litre flat-six-cylinder engine that outputs 174kW (234hp). This power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently displays 148,647 miles. For a model that first made its debut in 1963, the fact that the Porsche 911 is still one of the world’s renowned sports cars is simply incredible. That enduring reputation was built on earlier generations such as the Carrera 3.
2. As a high point for the air-cooled 911 timeline, the Carrera 3.2 became the last iteration of the original 911. All following generations used new styling, different suspension geometries, brakes, and electronic systems. It followed immediately after the 911 SC but issued 80 per cent new engine components. It quickly won favour in worldwide markets for its 930 Turbo-mimicking design details, nimble handling, and a sonorous high-displacement flat-six engine. The Carrera 3.
2 was offered in coupe, cabriolet, or targa body styles, with the latter proving a hard-to-beat combination for sunny days and sports driving without compromise. This 911 is painted in red metallic and specifies a white leather-upholstered cabin. The roof is black vinyl and the badges are finished in gold. There are no major aftermarket modifications, though the current owner has fitted a stainless steel exhaust and Kenwood head unit. It specifies the distinctive ‘whale tail’ rear wing and rides on a set of 16-inch ‘Fuchs’ wheels wrapped in Zeta tyres. Manufactured in Germany and delivered new to the United Kingdom, this factory right-hand-drive car comes with extensive documentation. It is thought to have had four owners overall, with servicing completed via official Porsche dealerships and specialist independents.
Recent maintenance has been completed by German Autos. The car underwent restoration that replaced all new seals, runners, rubbers, suspension, engine overhaul, new clutch, new interior, new paint, new wheels, new brakes, injectors, all filters, and a new fuel tank. It is said to drive very well. Exterior condition is presented in good order overall. The metallic red paintwork shines brightly in the sun, though suffers from significant hologramming and swirl marks on most panels. This could be improved with a thorough detail and polish. The vinyl pulls taut across the roof panel, only bunching around the edges.
There are no notable stone chips seen on the front apron and no kerb rash is seen on any of the four wheels. Inside, this 911 presents in great order, reflecting its interior overhaul. The white leather upholstery shows no scuff damage and burgundy carpeting appears with no stains. Some light wear and tear is noted on the gauge instrumentation, though no major marks are seen on the dash itself. There is a tear in the seal that surrounds the targa roof top and the sun visors display some light marks. All the original factory papers and receipts over the life of the car are included. As per Trading Garage’s Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage have completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research, they feel necessary before bidding.
