This 1987 Mercedes-Benz (W126) 560 SEL is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5 litre V8, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Featuring a re-trimmed interior and ownership by the current seller since 2017.
The odometer currently shows 269,363 km* indicated.
Introduced in 1985, the 560 SEL headed the revised W126 saloon range, combining Mercedes-Benz’s larger M117 V8 with an extended wheelbase for additional rear passenger space. Its fuel-injected, all-alloy engine displaced 5,547 cc, while standard mechanical features included anti-lock disc brakes and self-levelling rear suspension. The model brought together the range’s largest engine and long-wheelbase body in a specification focused on passenger comfort.
Finished in metallic blue with contrasting lower body cladding, the Mercedes features silver alloy wheels and a beige cabin with burr-wood trim. The photographed body plate records paint code 929, corresponding to Nautical Blue metallic. Equipment includes electrically adjustable front seats, an electrically reclining rear bench, air conditioning, an electric sunroof and a centre-console car phone. An Alpine Bluetooth stereo and replacement Hirschmann electric aerial have been fitted. The seller advises that the seats were retrimmed and their electrical functions repaired, while the dashboard was replaced with a refurbished unit. The exhaust has been modified with straight-through resonators replacing the centre mufflers, retaining the rear muffler.
The owner knows of two previous owners and has retained the car since 2017. According to the supplied history, initial work by Shepparton Mercedes-Benz specialist Graeme North included replacement of the timing chain, guides and camshaft oil-feed fittings, along with brake discs and pads, seat repairs and electrical work. The sunroof mechanism was rebuilt by Autocompfort in Tullamarine in early 2018. Subsequent servicing at Hans Stephan in Shepparton included replacement or repair of the heater blower, air-conditioning compressor, ignition components, drive belts, both fuel pumps, front suspension arms and ball joints, steering damper, front Bilstein B6 dampers, a rear hydraulic damper, and the tailshaft centre bearing and flexible couplings. From 2021, Prestige Automotive in Lilydale undertook servicing and further work, including rebuilt front brake callipers, new brake hoses, rear suspension repairs and a hydraulic-fluid flush. Engine and gearbox mounts were replaced at 256,000 km, with the most recent full service reported at 260,000 km in November 2023. In March 2026, Ben Burmudo carried out an oil and filter change and fitted a thermostat following radiator removal and flushing at Natrad Shepparton.
The seller describes the car as smooth and reliable, with paintwork that presents well despite minor front stone chips, light scratches and swirl marks. Light scratches to the alloy wheels are also disclosed. A parking dent to the driver’s-side rear door was repaired in mid-2018, when the bonnet, roof and boot lid were also repainted. The interior is described as being in great condition overall, with slight damage to the dashboard wood trim, mainly on the driver’s side, and wear to the fabric covering the side edges of the reclining rear bench. The passenger-side mirror does not adjust electrically, and an oil weep from the sump gasket is disclosed.
Included with the sale are three sets of keys, a complete tool kit, an unopened first-aid kit, and owner’s manuals for the car, car phone and Hirschmann aerial. The original Becker stereo also accompanies the vehicle and is reported to be non-functional.
