This 1989 BMW (E30) 318i has been comprehensively re-engineered with a BMW M54B30 inline six conversion, presenting as a highly developed and well-sorted E30 build. The odometer shows 419 km indicated since completion. Power comes from the 3.0-litre naturally aspirated M54B30 engine paired with a Getrag G260 five-speed manual transmission, sending drive to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential.
The E30 platform remains one of BMW’s most celebrated driver-focused chassis, and this example has been thoughtfully upgraded to retain that character while significantly enhancing performance and usability. The M54B30 engine swap was carried out prior to current ownership in Queensland and is supported by a modification compliance plate dated 2014 (LFA2). Since acquiring the car three years ago, the current owner has continued to refine and maintain the vehicle, focusing on suspension, braking, driveline, and overall presentation.
Mechanically, the car is described as excellent with no known faults or warning lights. It has been serviced consistently over the past three years by Fluid Drive in Box Hill. The most recent service was completed in October 2025 and included engine oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, brake discs and pads, brake fluid replacement, and a full coolant flush. Additional recent work includes new engine and transmission mounts, new rear CV joints, and the installation of Bilstein B6 dampers paired with H&R springs.
The drivetrain and supporting systems have been upgraded to suit the increased output of the M54 engine. The car features an E46 ECU and DME, an OBD2 diagnostic port discreetly mounted in the glovebox, electric cooling fans, and a battery relocated to the boot. Power steering is fitted, identified by its purple tag rack, and braking has been refreshed with new disc brakes all round.
Chassis and handling improvements include Whiteline sway bars, Bilstein B6 shocks with H&R springs, and new wheels and tyres. The car sits on replica 16-inch Alpina wheels wrapped in Falken ZIEX 205/50R16 tyres. Suspension tuning delivers a balanced setup that remains compliant while offering sharp response.
Externally, the car presents extremely well. The paintwork is excellent overall, having received a full respray around 2014. There are minor stone chips to the front bar and rear quarters consistent with limited use, but no dents or trim issues are noted. The car is fitted with an M Tech body kit and tinted windows, completing the classic E30 aesthetic.
Inside, the cabin is in excellent condition with new carpets and mats fitted. The interior features leather trim, a MOMO Alcantara steering wheel, a carbon fibre M3-style dashboard with all gauges and RPM functioning correctly, LED interior lighting, and a short-shift gear lever. Central locking is fitted with two alarm fobs, and the car is supplied with three keys. While the heater and air conditioning are not connected, the fan system is operational and all other electronics function as intended.
Additional upgrades include a custom XS Power and Redback stainless steel exhaust system, Bluetooth and USB stereo system, alarm and immobiliser, and a digital voltmeter integrated with the battery system.
The car is accompanied by three sets of keys and two alarm fobs.
