This 2004 Ducati ST4S is an honest-presented Ducati tourer which comes with recent maintenance and some modifications. It is powered by a detuned superbike motor – the four-valve 996cc V-twin engine borrowed from the Desmoquattro. It sends power to the rear wheel through a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer of this bike shows 37,042km. The 1990s saw increased demand for sports tourers and Honda’s VFR range held a substantial portion of the market throughout the decade. Sports tourers offered the perfect blend of sports ability and long-distance touring, allowing riders to travel longer distances with enhance comfort.

Seeing the interest for sports tourers, Ducati created the ST range of bikes that were built between 1997 and 2007. There are five distinct versions, but the ST4S used a detuned version of the 996cc motor from the Desmoquattro. It also featured updates to the suspension. Curiously the ST4S actually produced more power than the 996 due to the straight-through exhaust, whereas the 996 used an under-seat system. The ST4S remains an attractive sports touring bike and is renowned for its nimble handling and punchy large-capacity motor.

This Ducati ST4S is painted in Ducati Red and features black wheels and a tinted visor. The owner has added panniers and racks for enhanced storage. In terms of modifications, this bike is equipped with a period-correct Termignoni exhaust, chip tune, Ducati Performance air filter, and heated grips. It rides on a set of 17-inch Marchesini 999 wheels which come wrapped in Michelin tyres. No documentation will come with this bike – it was lost with a previous owner.

However, most servicing has been completed at MCShed in Geelong, Victoria and a recent minor service was completed by Blair Barrie in 2023. The current owner purchased the bike in 2019. It is said to be in good mechanical condition. Visually, the bike appears to be in good order from afar. The red paintwork glistens in the light and no major imperfections can be seen on the fairings.

However, closer inspection reveals several blemishes, picked up from years of touring use. The owner notes evidence of touch ups on the bike’s frame. There are some light scuffs around the panniers and foot rests, as expected with use. A scratch can be seen on the right-side of the bike’s frame. All accompanying documentation will be supplied, in addition to a Ventura rack and bag.
