A simpler way to sell
The first step is intentionally light. If your plate is suitable, our team helps build the information needed for the listing and guides the Platform process from there.
Tell us the state, plate number and how to reach you. You do not need to prepare a full listing just to start the conversation.
If your submission is suitable, our specialists will help determine an appropriate reserve using relevant completed results, current market insights and extensive category experience. We discuss the strategy with you before the listing goes live. Once the reserve is confirmed in accordance with the Terms & Conditions, it is binding for the Sales Process.
We will ask for proof of ownership and the details needed to prepare an accurate listing. Our experts help draft it, you review it, and after approval it can be scheduled for the Sales Process and marketing.
After a successful sale and payment of Trading Garage's Buyer service fee, we introduce Buyer and Seller. The Buyer pays the Seller the full winning bid within 7 days unless otherwise agreed, and both parties independently complete the transaction and transfer.
The value for heritage plate
There is no single price list for Heritage plates. A useful review looks at the combination itself, its scarcity and structure, and what genuinely comparable plates have achieved.
Digit class & scarcity
The size of the available number pool and the rarity of the combination can materially influence collector demand.
Low combinations
Low numbers and early combinations can have particular appeal to collectors.
Repetition & symmetry
Repeating, mirrored, sequential and visually balanced combinations can be especially memorable.
Meaningful numbers
Dates, culturally significant digits, round numbers and other recognisable sequences can attract buyers for reasons beyond digit count alone.
Provenance & presentation
Ownership history, supporting documents and any original presentation material can help a listing tell the plate's story clearly.
Comparable sales
Recent completed results for genuinely similar plates provide useful context, while no historical result guarantees a future selling price.
Any estimate or price guidance is opinion only, is not a warranty or
representation of the expected selling price, and the final price rests
with Buyer and Seller.
Details matter when the asset is significant
Numeric plates work differently across each state's registration system. A good listing uses the right terminology and describes the plate accurately. It also makes ownership and display rights clear, so serious buyers can do their due diligence.
VicRoads Custom Plates describes Heritage plates as reproductions inspired by Victoria's original 1930s plates and continues to release selected combinations through auction. Trading Garage remains a VicRoads Custom Plates auction partner, with selected 2026 Heritage releases hosted on the Trading Garage platform.
Service NSW identifies these as Numeral Only plates, managed by Transport for NSW and available through TfNSW auctions or private sale. Transfers of eligible plate rights are handled through Service NSW and are subject to Transport for NSW conditions and documentation.
Queensland's collector market recognises early Q-prefix combinations as Heritage plates. Under Queensland rules, the right to use a personalised plate combination can be transferred, while the physical plate remains property of the State. The relevant TMR transfer requirements still apply after a sale.
